at the noodle restaurant
opened my fortune after dinner
it was thrown away with my plate
can’t quite figure out what it meant
not sure how to live my life from here on out.
what do you think this fortune means?
‘live for the nights you can’t remember with the people you’ll never forget.’

I was a bit confused too, Beth, so I did a web search …
” The phrase “live for the nights you can’t remember with the people you’ll never forget” encourages embracing memorable experiences, especially those shared with cherished friends or loved ones. It suggests that even if some moments become hazy or forgotten, the connections and emotions formed during those times remain unforgettable.”

Fortune cookies only arrived over here in the 1990s. Even now, most Chinese restaurants don’t bother to hand them out.
Best wishes, Pete.

I think it’s telling you to drink more with dear friends and relatives, Beth.

Sounds like the cookie wants you to drink a lot. Meanwhile, there’s mine. “Protect and honor your friends. Seal them in plastic.”

that’s kind of how I saw it as well, but unsure of the whole thing. yours was hilarious

A very puzzling quote. I liked Ivor’s explanation but it really could have been said better.

Oh good golly…fortune cookie paralysis. I imagine…and envision that it said something akin to “good things await, especially for Beth”. There you go! 🥰

Yep, what Ivor said. Maybe live for ordinary nights with great people. Settle into peace with love.

given that in September I officially qualify for Medicare I think it means don’t discount what you did in your 20’s and spend some time just having fun like you did way back then…

I always saved my fortune cookies. It’s said that you’re hungry a hour after eating Chinese food, so an hour after I’ve eaten, I’ll have my cookie! Also, we have this little thing we do when reading fortunes. At the end of the fortune we add, “in bed”. It’s hilarious!

Huh, I’m stumped. Perhaps they need to hire a writer to write these fortunes.

I think it means something different at age 20 than at age 50+. Speaking for myself, the reasons for not remembering have changed drastically… :) But the people you’ll never forget has changed too – so much easier to know our core crew!

Here’s what happened. It was late on a Friday and the Fortune Cookie writer needed to “gin up” one more fortune. So what that it didn’t make sense. So what that it causes any reader to scratch their head. It was quitting time before a long weekend and they couldn’t wait to leave the office! Ha, ha. What do you think?

yes, I was thinking perhaps the writer was in some sort of mood -)

So, you’re supposed to drink until you can’t remember anything other than the people you were with? How does that make any sense at all? Unless, of course, you’ll remember the people since they got you so drunk you forgot everything, so you will never see them again, or forget them either. Or, an AI wrote the fortune and has no idea what it means.
