i cannot even begin to express the many reasons why i so love this
i know it is somewhere in michigan
now to find it
or create my own little rock library
perhaps one day
i can answer ‘rock trader’ as my profession when asked.

at least two of them were quite ambitious…. i do that with chestnuts, take them, bring them, display them somewhere… and then think of when we were at the sea, collecting shells, decorating fairy sand castles, etc.

I like a hobby that costs nothing except the travel tickets around the world searching for a perfect rock. The rocks are free.

Great idea. It reminds me of the ‘Pet Rock’ craze in the 1970s, but this time the rocks are free!
Best wishes, Pete.

Hi,
I really appreciate the beautiful quote you shared. It’s so touching and meaningful. One of my favorite quotes is “The only way to do great work is to love what you do” by Steve Jobs. It always inspires me to pursue my passions. Thanks for sharing!
Take care

How fun! Although I might worry about the person taking the biggest rock, wondering what they would do with it. ;-) I could see this as a place to take a rock, paint it with a ladybug or flower or inspiring message like “peace,” and return it to the box.

On a recent roadtrip, I passed a dirt road in Nevada with a wooden sign that said “Gem Field, open 7 days a week” with an arrow. I looked it up and it is an area known to be mineral rich, and you can park anywhere and dig. You bring your own tools, spray bottle, and bucket and you pay by the pound for whatever you take. It made me want to learn about rocks and gems and go back to explore one day.

My daughter collected rock at a young age. Not so much rocks that are unique, but sandstone ones in the driveway. A friend sent her one from PA that she added to her collection and she showed it all to me one day. She also collected the locust shells that were shed in the yard. Unfortunately, she collected them all in the same brown bag, so with a slight use of imagination you can imagine what fell out of her bag. Not exactly anything to do with your post but it brought back that memory and I just had to write it down.

Having sat through a lot of sharing days in my classroom, one of the things I could always count on was that some kids would bring in rocks to show their classmates.
