‘action on behalf of life transforms.
because the relationship between self and world is reciprocal…
as we work to heal the earth, the earth heals us.’
-robin wall kimmerer
robin is a mother, plant ecologist, decorated professor, author, and enrolled member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. In her books, she blends scientific understanding with the traditional ecological knowledge of Indigenous Peoples. The above quote is from her book, Braiding Sweetgrass, and I had the great honor to hear her speak last year.

While days like this are important for raising awareness, they also remind us of the long history of loss and injustice, and how much more there is to do in terms of true recognition and restoration….

Ms Kimmerer is one of my favorite human beings. I want to be like her when I grow up. I love the way she thinks.

I’ve long thought our indigenous peoples have the right idea about life and the world around us.

I am so horrified about the way indigenous people have been treated across the globe. How do they forgive all of us…ever? They try to heal the earth that we continue to destroy. It’s heartbreaking…no one really listens and takes the necessary action to bring about the needed change. We are always trying to fix what we broke and keep breaking things. All around us there are answers, from the indigenous people and the animals and the men in charge do not listen and we, the people, let them get away with being deaf.

they have not given up yet, even with all of that

Perfect post for today. I’ve been meaning to read Braiding Sweetgrass. Everyone I’ve talked to who’s read it highly recommends it.
