an afternoon venture to detroit
on a sunny fall day
for lunch at a delightful tiny restaurant
located in a rescued classic building
in the heart of the city
easy, delicious, beautiful
just what we needed.

Good to know they are restoring classic buildings. I don’t know much about Detroit, other than the Tamla-Motown connection and the car industry history. I watched this film about events in the city in 1967, and it’s powerful. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit_(film)
Best wishes, Pete.

Those buildings looked a bit tipsy to me. Or maybe it’s due to my third cup of coffee this AM?

Third Man Records is located in Nashville. That’s where the pressing plant is. Third Man Records in Detroit is a record store.

actually there is also a pressing plant in both locations now – more is better in this case )

You’re right. He’s not all the expensive. You know how I keep the dogs in kibbles, right? We just reprinted Mary Chapin Carpenter’s Stones in the Road for its 40th anniversary. 500 copies cost 4x what Third Man charges. OTH , our production team turned a single album into a double album because of the improved quality. Nice thick grooves.

Now that you are retired you don’t have to take the 8:15 to the city or work overtime. What a blessing to explore on your time. Thanks for sharing your amazing adventure. Keep being curious.

I’m always intrigued by skinny (narrow?) buildings like this. I’ve never been in one and can’t imagine what it must be like, how the interior is arranged in a useful way, etc.

I always looked forward to the Penn State – Michigan game, and this may have been the year PSU had a real chance to beat Michigan. Too bad the scheduling didn’t work out this year!

I think the quote makes perfect sense. I used to love going into Portland, OR to have lunch with my daughter who works downtown. I’d take the MAX so I didn’t have to drive or try to park.

Detroit is a city I’d love to explore one day. So much culture and history.
I agree with the Jack White quote. As I get older, I’ve grown an aversion to downtown and urban places. But a visit from time to time can feel invigorating.
