i finally tiptoed my way back into doing jigsaw puzzles at home
with a planned delay after having pete the cat come to live with me
he’s a rowdy teenaged cat who loves to jump and play
i started out by trying a 100 piece puzzle sent by my friend
i could work quickly and cover it if needed
that went pretty well
he jumped up on the table
laid down on it and grabbed a piece but put it back when i ‘suggested it’
this was the gateway opening wide for me
i knew a 1,000 piece puzzle
would take up too much space and time
so i went for a 500 piece
quietly got it out
sorted, made the frame
he jumped up to check it out
suddenly i had an idea
he loves to play, especially laser chase games
i love to solve puzzles, especially jigsaw and crosswords
so i armed myself with a laser pointer in my left hand
while i worked on the puzzle with my right hand
each time he jumped up
i aimed that pointer across the room and he took off running
i had a couple of minutes to work on the puzzle again
then he would jump back up and we did this all over again
i assumed he’d tire after 5 or 6 jumps
but no
pete the cat had energy to burn
we must have repeated this close to 20 times
finally i finished by puzzle
he went to take a nap
a win for both of us
while my team may have come in very last
in our recent jigsaw puzzle competition
i have taken it to a new challenge level
two-fisted gaming
‘jig-laser-tag-puzzling.’

I think I would go crazy if I was working on a puzzle and a cat came and laid on top of it. 😆
The laser pointer is such a great idea! When my now older cats were younger, they absolutely loved it. Kept them fit too! 😆

right! my older cat will usually lay on part of it just to get attention, and then just slowly push off a piece or two, but Pete the Cat is full on interactive. )

Amazingly ‘cat’-astrophic, two-fisted gaming, ‘jig-laser-tag-puzzling.’

Two-handed jigsaw/cat laser will no doubt one day be an olympic sport! 😊😸
Best wishes, Pete.

Ha! I love the name Pete. I’m sure you know, but there’s a whole thing for youngsters – books, songs, videos – about Pete the Cat. So cute!

Cats are not allowed on my table so this would not be an issue. That said, you are rather smart to have figured out how to keep him away from your puzzle!

OMG, they never get tired. When they think it is fun they keep up even more 😅 So, it is awesome that you made it! I love doing jigsaw puzzles. I used to do so many and big ones. First, there was no room to let it where I ended it, then I simply had no time and also forgot about it. And now, we have two cats… But the time will come again… hehe.

I wonder how many Pete the Cats there are in the world, following the success of the children’s book series?

right! I was inspired to name him Pete after my favorite politician, mayor, now secretary Pete, but also for Pete the Cat of book fame.

I’m sure Pete thinks playing laser tag is fun and expects to have a great time every time he sees you working on a puzzle. LOL They do know how to get us to do what they want. Playing that now works for both of you. I assume Olive just sighs and sits on her cat tree remembering when she was a teen ager as well.

I thought about that later, how he’ll now always see those activities as tied together, they are shrewd trainers. yes, to olive just taking it all in

I doubt I have either the patience or the coordination necessary to play this game, and losing to a fluffy 12-pounder would be disastrous.

This is such a fun and creative way to keep Pete entertained while puzzling! 😂 Totally relatable though—my cat goes wild whenever I try to do anything that requires focus. Just had my furniture cleaned too, so I’m hoping to keep the chaos to a minimum for at least a little while!
