it’s just not a real
oktoberfest street festival
until
it happens in september
and
the band wearing lederhosen
plays
“sweet home alabama’
—
coming home
we happened upon
yet another
surprise festival
downtown
‘dancing in the streets’
with
cellos playing rock and ballads
hot zydeco
jewish youth band
belly dancers
maypole colors
lone violinist
swing
ballroom
the horah
swaying
spinning
circling
hopping
dipping
instruments for kids to touch
drawing people into the street
for
movement
and
dance
creating
eclectic groups
new pairings
unlikely partners
happy faces
and
it was pretty sweet.

i think the universe is pure geometry – basically,
a beautiful shape twisting around
and dancing over space-time.

‘l laughed, i cried, i peed.’ – b. k.
had such a great night in the park
enjoying live theater
picnic-ing and laughing
while watching
fellow wp blogger,
roy sexton (aka ‘officer lockstock’)
and his merry band of castmates
sing and dance their hearts out
in this fabulous and clever musical

Urinetown is a satirical comedy musical from 2001, with music by Mark Hollmann, lyrics by Hollmann and Greg Kotis, and book by Kotis. It makes fun of capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, and musical theatre itself.

‘We believe no one should pass up live theater due to its cost. We rely on donations–not ticket sales–to fund our seasons, so we can provide a first-rate live theater experience for the price of a movie ticket.’

once a person has all the things they need to live, everything else is entertainment.
– neal stephenson
met this group of young entrepreneurs
while walking back
from the downtown art fair
found them
just on the perimeter
in a safe zone
for guerilla marketing
and a cash business
in a bright spot
future lemonade magnates
with
a plan
a happy disposition
and
a wagon-load
full
of quiet enthusiasm
they had made sixty dollars
on the day before
while
rotating jobs
one sign-holder
three salesmen
at street level
offering up cool cups
of
sweet relief
to all who wandered by
with shy smiles
and a price you couldn’t refuse.
a flip-flopped family makes memories as they head to
the giant water slide event on the streets of ann arbor
—
“600 feet of sweet, slippery vinyl for you to slide away all your summertime sadness.
You’ll never look at your streets the same way again.”

find ecstasy in life; the mere sense of living is joy enough.
– emily dickinson
and so it began
another summer
had arrived
and
it was kicked off
in a larger than life way
with
martha reeves and the vandellas
giving a free concert
outisde on the street
and
it brought people of all kinds together
to
dance in the streets
and
sing
and
remember
and
celebrate
the season
and later
i had the chance to see
my co-worker from school
in a very different role
acting in a
powerful production
of one of my favorites
‘rent’
held in a beautiful old theater
with voices booming and tears flowing
and i couldn’t have asked for a better way
to be welcomed into summer
but with music and passion.
