almost lost
my refund

wondering
how much
this
will
cost them

The admin costs, the paper cost..far outweighs the 0.09 cents. I keep getting in the mail a credit of 0.10 cents on my paid TV ..for flips sake! :-)

I received a similar letter from the bank a few months ago for a check of $11. They had overcharged me during the refinancing of my mortgage, and I have no idea what I did with the check. Oh well…

i know, it’s all a little crazy, but i know someone or some computer in some office somewhere needs to balance it all out. no grey area allowed –

I think there should be like a $250 penalty for their overcharging me. Then the check would be much more worth cashing. Just an idea… :)

great idea – or give all the extra to charity –

Very funny. In my work as an auditor of local government, we see a lot of this when we audit the courts. There are always a lot of overpayments because of rounding payment of tickets up and the overpayment checks never get cashed. Maybe as a society we need to do away with pennies.

oh, i’m sure you see it all the time. i know everything has to balance in the end, but yes, either eliminate the pennies or donate what’s left to charity and call it even.

I received a similar letter. It is a trick to get your account number at your bank. Wasn’t worth the stamp used to mail.

Beyond ridiculous but hilarious. Talk about a waste of money. :-D :-D

You MUST walk into a bank and cash it. Make the teller hand over the 9¢.

The scariest part of this whole ordeal is the comment that claims it is a trick to get your bank number, Beth. Oh, my, I hope that is not true. That is sinking, sinking, sinking to the bottom-feeding muck. You did wrong, make it right. Guilt in scamming?! I got a cold call from somebody who claimed to be fund-raising for a police tribute gala last night. I think that was a scam, too.
At face value, though, bothering folks for nine cents is beyond silly. I love your comment-suggestion of gathering up all the non-cashed cents in the world and giving THAT to charity. And not for a tribute gala, either. For your brother’s co-founded children’s cancer charity, I suggest.

oh, it’s very real mark. i got the check a couple of months ago and had a good laugh. it’s really credited to my account that i closed and overpaid by nine cents. now, the follow up arrives. it just keeps getting funnier – thanks for liking the suggestion )

I’m going to be fogey. That company had to send you that .09. They would have had to send you a penny, if it was truly your money. By law, they aren’t allowed to keep it. If you had underpaid, hopefully they would have common “cents” to write it off.
If it was a scam, then scary. If it was a promotion, ridiculous.

oh, i get it logically. but it so illogically logical. sometimes the law is like that. not a scam, it was on my final statement that they owed me 9 cents. then i got a check. then i got this reminder.

Haha. Then when you don’t respond, you will see your name in the unclaimed funds section of the newspaper.

That’s hysterical and oh so typical, Beth. At this point, I’m a little fuzzy on the details. But I believe I was billed for 45-cents to close an account. It cost that much for the stamp to mail it back. Silly!
Enjoy your windfall, you plutocrat you. ;-)

It could have been for a zero amount. :-) I’ve seen a bill for that years ago and the person had a terrible time getting through to them that you can’t pay a zero bill. :-(
