I know I’m more in the “Wishing I’d kept my trap shut” club. I don’t tend to say anything bad, but I can rabbit on to people I hardly know until I finally recognise the glazed look in their eye
I had a sarcastic co-worker who once said to me after I had espoused on a pet topic of mine at the office: ” There you go missing yet another opportunity to keep your mouth shut.”
How rude! I think your co-worker likes the sound of his own voice and was probably sitting around, excited for the opportunity to present itself where he could finally say that.
We actually had very good relationship – Ishould have mentioned that. I apologize Beth and Diana. One of those odd realtionships that men seem to have, where insulting each other is nomal. We’d been frends for about 8 years and when he said that I had to laugh. He had a number of great sayngs, one of which was: “It gets darkest just before it goes completely back.”
GREAT question – I think I vote for the latter – I’d rather apologize for the dumb thing I said than have someone incur disaster because I said nothing at all
The first is what galls me the most. I often open my mouth without thinking! The subject always reminds me of something my father often quoted (Confucious?): ‘Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all possible doubt.’ đŸ˜€ I don’t adhere to this nearly often enough!
It is truthfully a no win situation. I recently took the bull by the horns and asked my brother a question many others around me had asked me about my brothers actions. The result was not what I hoped for but at least it showed his true nature and intent. So I think I would have been better to stay quiet.
Beth … There’s many times when I’ve woken up at 3 a.m. and had the perfect comeback. But there are many more times when I’m glad I resisted the impulse to say what I was thinking. You cannot ‘unsay’ something, no matter how much you try. đŸ˜‰
Probably not much difference between the two beth. That’s a hard one.

I’m in the saying something and wishing I hadn’t. Cringe. At least I may be able to retrieve the situation if I said nothing.

OMG – startled me! Wow Beth! For me it would be saying something and wishing I hadn’t. Tend to say what I feel too much sometimes – but oh well

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. Usually both bite me in the butt, Beth. Oh, I wish I had not said it like that!

Although both are painful, I would say: saying something that I wished I hadn’t. Good question!
