Ochopee Post Office in Ochopee, Florida, is the smallest post office in the United States

Ochopee has one 131-mile mail route that serves more than 900 residents. The mail route covers deliveries in three counties and includes delivery on the Miccosukee Indian Reservation. The tiny building used to serve as a storage shed for irrigation pipes for a tomato farm but was pressed into service as post office after the Ochopee general store/post office was destroyed in a fire in 1953.

  3. We all need our post Offices, post Masters, parcel sending, parcel pick ups, passport photos, and a secure document mail system, … that cannot be replaced by the greedy, money-hungry private sector…. is nothing sacred from the “Jaws” of ‘Trumpism’…

  5. Great post, Beth! It is an important call to recognize and stand up and fight for the proud members of our USPS. Their safe and timely delivery of our mail has become so common place, that we have grown to take it for granted. Now is not the time to undermine one of the foundations of our proud country with the truculent and childish fears of a self-proclaimed monarch. All while he smiles for the camera and fills out his on mail-in voting forms. We must be unrelenting in our resistance!

  12. This country is one of the few places in the world where you can write a letter, put a stamp on the envelope, send it to a specific place on the other side of a continent, and have it arrive in a couple days exactly where you sent it. To call it “a joke” infuriates me.

  15. What a timely post. I urge everybody to buy stamps, make, write and send cards, letters and greetings to all your family and friends….. do it for a functionning future of your country!

  20. I can’t hear ‘post office’ without thinking of our mailman from my childhood. Though I don’t know for sure I think his name was Mr. George. He was tall, lean, impeccably dressed with his black shoes always shining. He was, a word I would use now but didn’t know then-elegant. Classy. He was always kind. And I associate the post-office with this man. (I just wanted to add a nice memory of the post-office service). Oh, and, as an investigator for Adult Protective Services I can’t recount the number of times the post-people would be the ones to report something going on with an elderly adult and call for help.
