I did that as a kid! Oh the wonder! Now I’m in a season of releasing my grown kids to “spread their wings” one by one… and knowing they are ready and able to fly is still a pretty great feeling after lovingly caring for them to help them morph into what/who they are.
Both of our grandsons raised butterflies at school and then set them free. We live close enough to their school, when they got home that day, a few of them were in our flower beds.
I have that same exact butterfly grower cage thingy for my kids. 🙂 It was fun and exciting to watch them break out of their chrysalis. (The butterflies. Not my kids.)
How cool is that? What a wonderful way to develop an early respect for nature and all living things!

they watched over them every day, like expectant parents, and knew they had to be very gentle

How does one become a butterfly?
You have to want to learn to fly so much that you
Are willing to give up being a caterpillar.

Teaching respect for the smallest of wildlife hopefully will transfer to respect for all life no matter the color.

What a wonderful moment, Beth. We had a summer of butterfly raising two years ago at the library, and the young ones adored it, yes.
