house of cards.

learned a new card game
while hanging with family at christmas
when someone reads the rules
it does nothing for me
i learn best by trial and error
lots of trials
lots of errors
but i did somehow win my first game
with a combo
of good luck and a happy accident
nothing to do with strategy
 i’m fine with that
then got slaughtered in the next five games
by the kids
my hot streak might be over.

  8. Like you, I learn better by action than by printed word. My dad was always very competitive with games, especially pinochle, which was a favored game of neighbors as well as family. It was always guys against gals, and if the gals one, they just got lucky with the cards they were dealt. Of course, the guys won because they had skills.

  10. I’ve never been particularly big on card games, but played some when I was much younger. As with computer programs, reading the how-tos in advance is more confusing than helpful.

  13. Card games are fun, but it was easier to learn as you go than when you read the rules. Which might explain why some people don’t read the directions. Just sayin’. Last year we tried a new game on Christmas night – Wingspan – and it was a fail. Just too complicated. This year, a new game Hues and Cues, and it was a win.

  14. I used to hate that song; now I relate to it. I’m like you with card games. I can’t even follow the rules of Uno which my friend’s developmentally disabled son has mastered. And there’s another game we play often and I can’t even remember its name. The cards are green, though, and the name of the game is printed on the back. I looked it up. Skip-Bo.

  19. I‘m absolutely the same, games are only fun when the trial and error rule rules! I drove my sisters crazy because I never went mad when I lost, because there was a heck of a lot of competition and I spoilt it with my laid-back attitude. I only get mad when it‘s worth it.
