ten years ago today
prince passed away
in paisley park
his minnesota home and recording studio
gone way too soon
at 57 years old
this multi – genre virtuosic musician
created more than 30 albums
won seven Grammy Awards over a 40-year career
As a teenager, Prince played in bands with his friends, when he was 20, he signed his first record contract with Warner Bros., that same year released his debut album, For You. Nearly every year after that he released a new album.

my personal prince story – fifteen minutes
years ago
I finally had a chance
to get tickets to see him in concert
he was coming to the detroit area on tour
as long time fans
my friend and I got in line early to try to get tickets
after waiting for a very long time
we finally got close to the front
just as they announced
‘it is totally sold out!’
we were so disappointed to say the least
but as we were about to walk away
they said ‘good news- don’t get out of line..’
‘he’s decided to add a second show the next night!’
what perfect luck,
we hurriedly bought two tickets
nabbed incredible seats very close to the stage
it was a dream come true
outside, we told everyone what happened
drove back to my house and were celebrating our luck
when the realization hit me
because the additional show would be on a different night
it would be a night when I’d be out of town in Dallas for my job
hadn’t even thought about this when I bought the tickets
no possible way to get out of the trip
no way to see prince
but I did have fifteen minutes
where I was sure I was going to see him live
and what a wonderful fifteen minutes those were.

Nice tribute, Beth. He was great, and ‘When Doves Cry’ is one of my favourite songs.

10 years already?! Time has flown. And has, 57 is far too young. I never got to see him live – so good for you for scoring those second show tickets!

well, I had them for a few minutes, but couldn’t go, so I didn’t either, but always loved him

Aw, geez…
Eric Clapton was asked what it was like to be the greatest guitarist on this planet. He thought a minute and said: “I don’t know. Ask Prince.”

Aww, at least you got those 15 minutes! Ha ha, that had to stink. He died way too young.

yes, I had those glorious minutes of joy! well, it happens, and I continued to follow all that he did, sad he was gone so young, yes

Gracious, you have a great attitude about missing it for work! I suppose there was nothing to be done about it, though, so a great attitude is the best option. It’s hard to believe it’s been ten years.

at that time in life, no options with working as a single mother, but I continued to follow him all the way – yes, 10 years have flown by

Oh, shoot! The question I have: What did you do with your ticket? You must have made someone quite happy.

I enjoyed this post so much – and especially your 15-minutes of joy story! Did you sell your tickets? I never saw him in concert and only after he passed do I wish I had tried to see him perform.

Oh, I feel like those tickets were physically stolen from you! I loved Prince, was such a fan. To have had tickets and then “lost” them … crushing.

what a glorious 15 minutes… I had a ticket to see Bowie at the Joe during his Serious Moon Light tour. Day of the show, I fell so ill I wasn’t even aware I had a ticket…

Oh nooooooo! I am so sorry this happened to you.
I was lucky enough to see him once in Montreal. So darn good.
My late husband waited in line for HOURS to see Led Zeppelin in unbelievable heat. The firetrucks came and sprayed them to keep them coo. Was a very festive event; and then news came over the radios… the drummer John Bonham had just died and all was cancelled.
