Let the grass grow till it is a foot high? I will need a combine not a lawn mower.

It is definitely good for nature, but makes the eventual mowing a big job. More people might have to use gardeners then, so it could actually offer them more work in the future.

If the grass grows to 12 inches you are probably going to lose a few rakes.

this is just for the spring and that can grow pretty fast, so we’ll see how it goes. this is the second year

If I let our lawn get to a foot high, Beth, I’d have to take off the bagger and go for the mulch cut instead.

My city will fine you if the grass is ever over six inches tall. We need to borrow your city council as I’d be happy to let my grass grow a foot tall, and even taller! Save the bees!!!

I am fortunate that I mow a small lawn in back. The big yard is beach grass and moss. I’m okay with that.

I’ve mowed enough lawns in the past to know grass a foot tall would be horrendous.

I think they are really just wanting people to not worry about mowing in the spring. The city spurts them and it will be good for the pollinators

It’s a wonderful idea and known as No Mow May! It gives anything in the grass a chance to flower and for some regions the first flowering plants to offer food for pollinators. We’ve taken so much away from them already with development, pesticides, etc. that this is just a little boost. It’s been going on for several years here.

I love the concept. However, we wouldn’t be able to cut our lawn at that height. Instead, we’ve planted wildflower seeds this year in the hopes we’ll create more “fill-up” stations for bees and butterflies.😃

We have a similar system with our local council for the parks. They only mow a path through and leave the rest to grow. They have sown wild flowers throughout.

We don’t have that problem here. The government only mows the grass in the parks about twice a year. It grows up to my chin.

My grandson and I slowly ripped our front lawn out over a two year period, so enforcers now have to poke around back if they want to cite us for any violations.

How could you mow grass that high? I’m all for doing whatever it takes to made bees and butterflies happy, but then you’d just have to let it go or hack it down.

I think their goal is to not mow until the end of may and they won’t have any problem with the height
