“in celebration of the national toy hall of fame’s 25th anniversary, the public will have the chance to choose one of this year’s inductees from the so-called ‘forgotten five.’ the toys – the fisher-price corn popper, my little pony, pez dispensers, the pogo stick, and transformers – are ‘icons of the play world’ and frequent finalists, but have never made the cut. “now one of these will make the hall and, for the first time it will be purely in the hands of the voting public,” chief curator, christopher bench said in a press release.

Pez dispensers are still sold here, and Transformers have become expensive collectibles. I would probably vote for the Pogo Stick, as electronic scooters for children have made that all but disappear completely
Best wishes, Pete.

I haven’t bought toys for seems like centuries. But I think I would choose something that would initiate creativity and not something that is used/played with a few times and then put in the closet.

I never considered Pez dispensers as toys, so I couldn’t vote for that one. I never had any of the other toys, but my brother did have a pogo stick and watching him try and fail brings back an interesting memory, so I went that route.

Feeling nostalgic. As soon as there’s a grandchild I’m going out and getting one of those. 😉

The corn popper – everyone was able to play with that… Unlike the pogo stick, which required some dexterity ;-)

My vote goes to the Pez dispenser, Beth, as the thought of candy coming out of its bent neck still brings me a smile.

Hmm, does it depend on whose toy it was? I remember the corn popper because my son had one. I remember the Pez dispensers because I had several, but like Anonymous, I wouldn’t consider them a toy.

Oh…that corn popper. Long before anyone thought about ‘neurodivergence’ it was such an inclusive toy. I’ve got fond memories of my sister and a sweet cousin who both had vision and mobility issues and that was their fave toy! I never knew it was called a ‘corn popper’, tho. We called it a ‘bubbler’ because it made such fun sounds. A giggle prompt – every time! Thanks, Beth! 🥰🥰🥰

Really didn’t get excited about any of these toys. Give me a book! Now that is my idea of playing. Or Lego, definitely Lego.
