notice posted by the sebastian county sheriff’s office as a reminder to drivers (and deer):
We have received a few reports that some deer, for whatever reason, are not using the designated deer crossing areas along our county roads and state highways. If any deer follow our page, please know that we put these signs up at some expense to the taxpayers. We’d appreciate you crossing at the designated areas. To our motoring community, please watch for these deer that are blatantly disobeying the law.

A few years ago, driving back from the coast, I hit and killed a deer on a country road in Norfolk. It was a very distressing experience, and I still feel guilty about it.
Best wishes, Pete.

It always scare me when I see deer by the road. We had one unfortunate encounter (the deer ran away, but our car was dented), and some close ones. But I feel so sorry for them.

Having a personal encounter between a deer and a vehicle I am driving is one of the reasons my mother told me to always leave the house and clean underwear. I don’t know why she thought they would still be clean if something like this happened.

I think the deer would be wise to cross safely , however I’d happily forgive them a bag of pickles. They are very charming creatures.

Ah, yes, here in Minnesota the deer also don’t obey roadside signage, crossing wherever they please. Love when law enforcement uses humor. We need more of that rather than the tough guy attitude.

So funny. But so heart breaking to see deer almost every day on a road. Left to be picked up.

Deer are natural rebels. They scoff at laws and want to remind drivers that they do not own everything. Still, for their own safety, someone should spend more time explaining things to them.

What a cute post Beth! I have been on medication and I saw a beautiful buck go running through our yard. My family told me I was hallucinating and didn’t believe me. The other day my daughter and grandkids stopped over and I said look there’s a deer in the yard again. They all cracked up like “Here we go again”, hallucinating. My daughter stood up and said wow there are so many points on the antlers! My husband saw two a few days earlier too.

There’s a rad near me that has a sign showing the number of incidents involving deer in the last 12 months. It’s currently standing at 246! I’ve had several near misses.
