after seeing the trailer for this film
i really thought it was going to be a comedy
it did have its funny moments and lines
as the movie played out
it was so much more
the trio of lead actors were brilliant
the characters
interacted
revealed themselves
learned about each other
personal stories emerged
in ways unexpected, tragic, and beautiful
finding something in each other
perhaps they didn’t even know they needed
but oh, did they ever
because as their understanding
of their humanity
with all of its flaws and challenges
came to the forefront
they chose grace
each was made the better for it
and forever changed.

That sounds like a movie I would enjoy. Too bad that the closest open theater to me is more than 45 minutes away. I’ll keep the title in mind in case it makes its way to Amazon Prime.

I’m guessing it will pop up somewhere to stream before too long

Sorry to say that I cry FAR more than I‘d like to, not just in happiness or when I‘m saddened, but I think, apart from going blind, my eye conducts are full of holes because literally anything brings tears these days. But then, I also totally agree with Alain de Botton, whom I always read and admired for his work.

Yes to that comment from Alain Dr Bottom. For years I’ve tried to tell my family why I cry in movies but never had the words. But he says it for me. Thank you xx

really, just for some of the language, but nothing terrible.I feel it is so worth watching for the compassion, understanding, misunderstanding, kindness and grace.

Thank you! I saw the trailer and I really want to see it. You’ve nudged me that much closer to it. And I so agree with the quote. I rarely cry when it’s sad but when it’s beautiful? Waterworks.

I cannot wait to see this – Paul Giamatti is a brilliant actor and the Director is behind such terrific films as “Sideways”, “About Schmidt” and “Election!” Thanks for the two thumbs up!

Somehow I’ve managed not to hear about this one. But if it’s a tear jerker, I’ll need a whole box of tissues. Maybe two.

Love Paul Giamatti …. We hope to see it later today or maybe tomorrow. I hate trailers anymore. They either give the wrong impression like you mentioned or give way too much away. Great review Beth!

One of my favorite actors! Love the premise of the movie, made me think of other elite schhol type movies … scent of a woman with Chris O’Donnell; dead poets society, school ties.

yes, some things have that similar feel for sure, and the setting is based in a private school as well

My goodness, this is a must see movie. I had the same experience when I saw Terms of Endearment. I thought it was a comedy, and the only thing I had to dry my many tears were the salty popcorn napkins. I love the quote!

We saw this last week, Beth. Definitely not as humorous as I expected (hoped), but the acting and scene design was spot-on and the messages delivered within certainly left a lasting impression.
