wrist-twist.

Standard

not sure i would have wanted this in my car

the wrist-twist isn’t my thing

i would have preferred

one of those big old round steering wheels

you could turn with one hand

but the hair is amazing

like judy jetson

in the cockpit

piloting a speeding jet

can’t say that i’m totally surprised

this concept never got off the ground.

Ford introduced the “Wrist-Twist” steering system for cars in 1965. Despite better visibility, a roomier cabin and allowing you to drive with your arms on armrests it never went beyond the testing stage. 1. That was so funny to watch…. Never ever heard of it – some compelling details like armrests and great visibility.
On another note: I’ve read that BIG hair is coming back for another show-up. Good heavens, i hope not. Just think of the tons of aerosols being sprayed in those bee hives :)

  2. A case of quite literally trying to reinvent the wheel. Ford should have remembered the sie saying, ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’. Most women of a ‘certain age’ had beehive hairdos in my youth. I considered them to be very normal in 1960s London. :)

    Best wishes, Pete.

  3. Oh my goodness…new to me! But honestly, I’d take the wrist/twist thing if it was attached to a ’65 Mustang…just saying…and the hair? Oh…reminders of photos of my mom and aunts ‘back in the day’. Cans and cans of hairspray necessary for those big ‘up dos’. 😜

  4. I would stick with the steering wheel. The hair reminds me of the horror stories we girls were told about spiders building a nest in a French twist or bouffant hairdo, so that we’d never attempt one with our hair.
