reasons why that reader is frowning:

1.they just read the book they put off for 393,348  years and it’s excellent, why didn’t they read it sooner?

2. they are in a fight with their to be read pile and it is winning.

3. someone just said, “why don’t you read the books you have before getting more?”

4. all of the above.

  1. I like to have a few books around me, a current one, ‘Stone Yard Devotional’ by Charlotte Wood, and two or three in waiting; I don’t feel obligated to read a book if, after a few chapters, it fails to engage me —

  2. 5. The reader has just finished reading a paragraph in the novel, in which a bird has outsmarted a cat, which the reader finds fantastically unrealistic, since the reader is convinced that cats are much more intelligent than birds.

  3. Are you crawling into my brain this morning? 😉My stack keeps getting larger and if I don’t stop the re-reading of treasures…books I’ve loved but continue to inspire…I’m never going to get to the ‘new stack’. Thanks for the smile, Beth!

  4. Boy, does this post resonate with me. I’ve read more books in the last couple of years than ever before. Yet, I’m losing ground on my Kindle. Oh well, there are worse habits than being a readaholic.

  5. Oh, no…not number 3. Uh uh. One must get all the books one wants, regardless of the mounting TBR pile. Have to go with the mood of the day or minute. And Voltaire is wrong…books are dangerous, that’s why there are people trying to ban them…they do actually bring about change and the weird people think they will harm the world and their strange way of life that has no room for freedom. I love this post.
