when traveling to mexico with friends

we decided on the plane

to each take on an alias for our trip

based upon the nail polish color we were each wearing

i immediately became ‘dusty rose’ for a week

i’ve loved nail polish names ever since.

here is a fun sampling:

  • Alpaca My Bags
  • Teal the Cows Come Home
  • Suzi Takes the Wheel
  • Not Like the Movies
  • Indi-go With the Flow
  • Please Sea Me
  • Pat on the Black
  • So Much Fawn
  • Gray-t Escape
  • I Pink I Can
  • No Baggage Please
  • what would your nail polish alias be?

  1. My hands are frightening and the nails even worse, so I use only clear polish to coat the backs of watch and bracelets that break my skin out. Your color is beautiful, but it would only last a few minutes on me before I began to peel it off. Don’t know why I do that, but probably nerves. Or ugly fingers!

  2. what a fun post! I find myself, when looking for a color for my nails, to check the name of everyone I like. I will only pick that one if I like the name as well as the color.

if you are serious about having color on your nails, use gel polish. I have never gotten a trip using that. Of course, I gave up manicures a year ago to save money, and now the only “color“ my nails get is clear polish. since I tend to feel invisible most of the time, that actually might fit.

  3. So much fun! I had a red shade that I loved for years – on my toes – that was called “Pow Punch”. It always made me feel like I was putting on some sort of superhero nail polish. Thanks for the giggles, “Dusty Rose”. 🤣

  4. My fav and signature color is Enuff is Enuff

It was/is perfect for our political atmosphere

and all we have experienced the last 4 years.

    Love your Dusty Rose.

  5. One of my favourite colours was, For What it’s Earth. That was before! About a year ago I purchased a pallet off Amazon and the polishes are simply numbered. I am currently wearing B4. Call me Before the Earth.
Thanks for the fun this Saturday, Dusty Rose.

  6. Oh I can‘t believe these are real names…. So funny
I would be a very prominent intense hot red – but only on lipsticks these days. The last time i used red nail polish was at my wedding. 26 years back…. I play the cello and am a rather ‚nervous hand person‘ – so it wouldn‘t hold for more than some minutes before I‘d start pulling at it. On the upside, one wouldn’t see the soil dirt under darkly painted nails. Best just to scrub my nails clean and hope that nobody wants to see my hands!

  7. I love nail polish and always wear it. A friend bought me a gorgeous bottle of red nail polish called “I’m not really a secretary” The best name ever. I love all the clever names you listed as well.

  8. What a fun and unexpected post, Beth! It’s been ages since I did my nails. (Polish chips faster on my nails than anyone I’ve ever known, so I gave up and only did pedicure for years. Now I don’t even do that.) Even so, I’ve always loved the colors and especially the fun names. I love your dusty rose color.

The polish name aliases amps it up another notch. What a terrific idea. My favorite color used to be Kyoto Pearl. I’d use that alias in a heartbeat. Thanks for the fun. Hugs.

  9. How fun to take on the names of your polish! I love the original names they come up with. I’d have been: Now Museum, Now you Don’t; which kinda matches my car. I think O.P.I. have the coolest names.

  10. I wore polish, very rarely, back when I was working. I loved the look but it was just too much trouble to maintain. Sheet marks before it dried; chips just a day or two later. That Dusty Rose pic is just about the color I always chose. A nice mauve shade. But I’ve never had a professional manicure. Does that make me weird?

    • not weird at all, my nails are generally the same ones you’d find on a mechanic after a long day at work, I only get them done once in a while or when traveling, but I’m not good at having polished nails )

  11. I don’t have a real nail polish to offer, but as my nickname when I worked for the police in London was either ‘Stalin’ or ‘Yoda’ (depending on who was talking) I have to suggest ‘Soviet Red’, or ‘Jedi Green’.

    Best wishes, Pete.

  12. The models nails are something I could only dream of but the names are fantastic. So much fun. I’m doing mine tonight and hope they last until tomorrow without chipping. I love that you took fake names based on your polish. That’s a stroke of travel genius for sure. This isn’t real, but I’d like to wear…Orange you glad to see me? LOLOL

  13. Love this! I have often wondered the work groups at OPI who are paid to come up with these fun, creative names.

Not sure what I would use for my name.
