“it really boils down to this: that all life is interrelated. we are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tired into a single garment of destiny. whatever affects one destiny, affects all indirectly.”

-REV. DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.

*Juneteenth (short for “June Nineteenth”) marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. The troops’ arrival came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth honors the end to slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running African American holiday. On June 17, 2021, it  officially became a federal holiday.

  1. It saddens me to know that some people don’t want to even try and understand how powerful this way is to millions…they take their freedom for granted and can’t seem to understand a period when that freedom wasn’t granted to all.

  2. I wondered already a bit about ‚what will beth write about, once she is no longer with „her“ kids‘ but now I‘m confident that you will enlighten us daily about relevant and unimportant (but funny or amazing) stuff. Thanks a lot
