  1. There is no native milkweed plant in Australia
    . However, the Monarch butterfly, which is not native to Australia, arrived from North America and began to flourish once its host plant, the Milkweed of the genus Asclepias, also arrived

  2. This is exactly the milkweed that I remember from my childhood up in the north east. It was everywhere! Now I’m paying attention to the milkweed plants that are butterfly gardeners have planted and how successfully they have attracted the monarch caterpillars in the past couple of years! The plants look very different, so I wonder if they’re just a completely different type?
