‘the opinion of ten thousand men is of no value if none of them know anything about the subject.’
*marcus aurelius
*Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (121 – 180) was Roman emperor from 161 to 180 and a Stoic philosopher. He was a member of the Nerva-Antoine dynasty, the last of the rulers later known as the Five Good Emperors and the last emperor of the Pax Romana, an age of relative peace, calm, and stability for the Roman Empire lasting from 27 BC to 180 AD.

I always think of Marcus as the ‘Sensible Emperor’. This quote adds weight to my theory.
Best wishes, Pete.

“Television is altering the meaning of ‘being informed’ by creating a species of information that might properly be called disinformation. Disinformation does not mean false information. It means misleading information – misplaced, irrelevant, fragmented or superficial information – information that creates the illusion of knowing something, but which in fact leads one away from knowing.” ~ Neil Postman

Is this ever true today. Most or some of us use only one or two sources for news. The ones we agree with. Events happen/change so quickly it’s hard to keep up. I am finding it harder and harder to have a discussion with friends or even some family members. The weather seems to be the safest topic.

I still find that BBC Radio 4 informs as well as any…..It is so difficult to have a decent conversation or discussion because everyone (understandably) is so angry and fed up…..

Some days I believe that the opinion of any man isn’t of any value… but I suppose that’s a topic for a different day. 😉

One of my opinions is that I thought it odd that one of my cousins called me Marcus Aurelius when we were growing up, Beth.

I know it was fictionalized, but Marcus Aurelius was given great modern love in the first Gladiator movie. He was a man of great honor and integrity.

When I was growing up, we had two Miniature French Poodles. My brother named the first one Barky but my mother had loftier ambition and named the second one Marcus Aurelius. From Barky to Marky!

Similarly, the opinion of one or two men is of no value if neither of them know anything about the subject.
