this post
a day late
may day
yesterday
a day spent
walking
for the workers
for the immigrants
for all people
for their rights
human rights
in the park
on the streets
to city hall
I feel lucky to be able to say
I’m home again
not everyone can say that tonight.

Thank you! I couldn’t get to the big Philadelphia march yesterday, but I did do a smaller local protest. It seemed like most of the people in the cars that passed us were supportive.

Every day should be May Day. Thanks to you and all who do the walking from those who are only able to do the watching.

Great to hear what you did yesterday. Outside of some of the biggest cities, MayDay is very quiet here. It is not a public holiday, so there are very few demonstrations to be found.
Best wishes, Pete.

THANK YOU for walking, for allowing your voice to be heard. That ending, that you are home and others are not, says it all.

it really hit me when it was all over, and I walked in my door, tired and happy to be home, and realized how lucky I was

Sometimes it takes awhile for something to hit us. Boom. And then it’s a remarkable revelation.

“I’m home again, not everyone can say that tonight.” I love that line Beth, because it sums up my issue with our current state of things so well. I get that we need strong immigration policies. I’m understanding of the need. We have a system of rules and laws. But the folks on the other side, always lose me when they skip over due process and fail to act with any kind of of humanity. The idea of going to work or school and getting scooped up and separated from family . . . I find that unfathomable. Where’s the mercy? Where’s the grace? Where’s the things that make America what it’s been for most of our history? Ugh. Anyway, thank you for sharing. A wonderful, poignant post!

We drove past a group of protestors and I made it a point to circle around and drive by them a second time just so I could honk my horn and give them a thumbs up in solidarity.
