*Cesario Estrada Chavez 1927-1993) was an American labor leader and civil rights activist. Along with Dolores Huerta and Gilbert Padilla, he co-founded the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA), which later merged with the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee  (AWOC) to become the  United Farm Workers (UFW) labor union.

  14. I join you in honoring and supporting our farm workers. One of the most appalling videos I saw in recent weeks was that of ICE agents chasing farm workers down the rows of a strawberry field. It was a horrifying scene, here, in the United States of America. When will this end?

  15. Honouring and supporting farmers and farm workers is honorable and the right thing to do as without them there would be no food. So they are very important for our wellbeing and life and should be recognised.

  22. I don’t see a brown tabby hiding in a brown grocery bag …

    Farm labor, stoop labor, is very hard work and I appreciate those who do that work so the rest of us can enjoy this nation’s abundance. They deserve dignity, not deportation.

        • I agree. one initiative that I saw in California is that small groups of people are getting together to raise money and going to street vendors to buy out their stock, fruit, veggies, etc. and sending them home to be safe. this gives them enough money to pay their bills, their rent, help their family etc, without having to be out on the street and be in danger. they can take some of the food home or the buyers can donate the food to the local food bank. I love this micro solution for the immediate help. we still need to solve the larger problem of the insanity of this horror story.

  26. As you so often do, you combine wisdom with humor. We’re on the same page with the farm workers. What is so hard about respecting other people, regardless of their color or ethnicity?

    • for some reason, I always been able to see connections in life, and like tying them together, maybe why I can do those nyt connections puzzles.)
      yes, it comes down to respect for all people and their human dignity regardless of differences. again, connections, from one person to another.
