Milana Skoriic, Disheveled Flower Painting, watercolor on paper
—
September
then the flowers became very wild
because it was early september
and they had nothing to lose
they tossed their colors every
which way over the garden wall
splattering the lawn shoving their
wild orange red rain-disheveled faces
into my window without shame.

Had a similar conversation with my writing group yesterday. All are over 60 and very much going wild because they are in the autumn of their lives and really do feel like they’ve got nothing to lose. All say they are now writing things they wouldn’t have been brave enough, or wild enough, to have written years ago

Such a lovely quote, and it applies to many people too. Added to that, I am writing this in the middle of a storm that is currently finishing off any plant life that has survived a hot summer in my garden.
Best wishes, Pete.

What a beautiful and vivid poem. The accompanying watercolor juxtaposes nicely with it. Come to think of it, this time of the year before the start of fall is beautiful when the late summer flowers bloom, like black eye Susan’s!
