i recently made a wonderful discovery

when playing with a couple of my grandies

at the park across the street from my house.

the people in my local community

who visit the park or live nearby

have begun

to purposely

leave toys behind

for any and all children to play with.

what a simple, powerful, and generous act

what an amazing way to teach children gratitude

and

the importance

of sharing what we have

with others in the world

who may not have as much.

“the essence of community, its heart and soul,

is the non-monetary exchange of value;

things we do and share because we care for others,

and for the good of the place.”

possibly my family holiday photo

i had my taxes done yesterday

by a woman

who has done them

for over 10 years.

while there

as always

we talked about

all that has happened since we last met.

this time however,

when finishing up

she casually asked:

‘for some reason the i.r,s, shows that you have 25 children

and  i can’ t get it to delete. any life changes since last year?’

‘nothing of that magnitude, really,

at least not that i’m aware of.

but maybe that’s what all that commotion is in the lobby?’

we always enjoy our time together

but this really kicked it up a notch.

same time next year?

absolutely.

bureaucracy has more than a few quirks

and i so appreciate her

for helping me to navigate through the crazy system

and somehow try to make some sense of it.

my 25, could make this

the best year of deductions ever!

as citizens, we feel a strong patriotic duty not to go to jail.

the trail of tears.

it was

a wonderful morning

filled with skating

and sliding

and parents

and teachers

large_photo286224_3369342

and tumbles

and laughter

and happy screams

were heard

and

most of all

kids

just having fun

and sharing the day

large_photo286224_3369347

and

after the mad fun

it was

 time to warm up

and enjoy treats

and then

large_photo286224_3369345

some of the little ones

began to realize

 that parents

had to

head back to work

or home

and a bit of worry

set in

and

as we said goodbye

and hiked back

towards school

the tears flowed

and the wails were heard

and some

were

walking

and weeping

and clinging

as if

parting forever

and it was

dramatic

and

so full of love.

it was building day in kindergarten and all kinds of things were being built.

both those one could easily see and proudly carry home, and those one could carry inside forever.
