how the government shutdown and dominoes led to a ruined big night in for my friend in 10 easy steps.

Standard

1.  friend’s husband signs up for long distance marathon and has to spend the night before it, on site. he is happy.

2. friend’s friend invites their kids to have a slumber party with her kids that night at her house. both sets of kids are happy.

3. friend is extremely excited to have an very rare night at home all to herself, not taking care of anyone else. she is happy.

4. friend making plans to pamper herself and do only things she most enjoys.  she is very happy.

5. two american government parties disagree on things. they are not happy.

6. both sides play chicken and no one gives in and they find themselves at an impasse.  they are even less happy.

7. government shuts down. each side is blaming the other one for their unhappiness.

8. national parks shut down. rangers and visitors are not happy.

9. friend’s husband’s marathon at national park is shutdown. he is not happy.

10. friend’s night of self-indulgence is shutdown. she is not happy.

  1. There is nothing worse than children fighting over their toys and then blaming each other when they are broken. It is a shame that adults, especially those that are in government cannot solve their differences without such ridiculous tantrums. The whole thing has become farcical.

I hope that your friend will have that lovely night
of self indulgence, and sooner rather than later :)

Have a lovely Day Today Beth :) ;)

  2. 11 – sponsors of the marathon find a new venue outside of the park, all of those dollars that would have fed into the government machine get put into the private sector instead, the race happens, the night of indulgence happens, everyone is happy again except the government – and nobody cares about them anyway?

  3. Bummer for your friend. Bummer for the federal employees with mortgages and children needing sneakers. The only ones making out like bandits are the credit card companies — the bankers. What else is new?

  4. The whole thing is kind of silly too. The bill was signed into law, and then was held up by the supreme court, the highest court in the land. It’s not worth shutting down the government to stop its implementation… if anything, that kind of issue should be sorted out by voting. Hopefully they can resolve things soon…

  5. I feel for your friend, things go awry on so many levels of our lives and others, too. I hope for a “redo” and things falling into place! Definitely like the insight you showed in equating it with the “domino effect!” Who would have thought the national parks would encumber the race, aren’t there any other locations?? I would have been upset, too! Hubby, though, isn’t quite as hard to get rid of as the kids! Maybe she found his company good enoughfor a “date night” ensued?! Smiles for your sympathy towards her, too!

    • really nice of you, no horrible results, just a bit of disappointment for both of them. found it a bit crazy how the government shutdown affected so many people, and caused things to happen, or not happen, in ways we never expected.

    • they are indeed, happy kids, though they didn’t get to have their planned sleepover so a bit sad. now that the government has resolved its issues, hopefully balance will be restored for everyone )
