michigan, united states – shot in january from space
and on the ground, in michigan, the falls are so cold they have stopped flowing.
it hits me like an avalanche on fire – i am in the united states, and talking to my daughter in australia, and i realize, that while we are both sharing this exact same moment in time, on the exact same planet earth, we are simultaneously experiencing extreme weather temperatures that are 100 degrees apart.

as my aussie grandson, m, once said, on his first winter visit to the states, when looking out the window of the cottage –
‘look peaches, there must be a fire!’
‘oh, m, don’t worry, that’s just blowing snow.’
‘oh, then there must be some snow on fire.’
has hell frozen over?, i wondered.

I was discussing this very same thing with someone in the playground yesterday as we got drenched, yet again, waiting for our children to be released. It is mind boggling that one could live half the year in one country and the other half in another, and never experience winter again. I’m not sure I’d want too! (Although my cold bones argue differently!) Great post and pictures. The waterfall is stunning xx

Very good questions, our weather is changing globally, some say global warming, others say it’s a cycle and has happened before. Very apt post Beth – we start tomorrow in our 30’s, again building up for the next… I shall be melting yet again. Loved the pics. xx

My niece and husband have just arrived in Toronto from Brisbane – and are finding it hard to go from 40 odd Celcius to -25 – with chill factor taking it down to -37. Too cold for me! And Farmer Farthing, I used to work with a lady who was in New Zealand from October through April, then went to England May – September, and had not had a winter for 12 years!

I love the aerial photo of Michigan and Wisconsin buried in winter snows around Lake Michigan. We moved to Door County, Wisconsin in the fall, so we’re seen in the photograph too. The global climate situation is scary right now. We are so ferociously cold and Australia is so dangerously hot that something is clearly out of kilter. We need to be better stewards of the earth.

I recently returned from Australia – Brisbane and Canberra – after visiting my daughter – the heat wave! It is actually cooler here in Singapore and we are only 3 degree north of the equator.

thank you, and i suppose we are quite used to it, especially as the winter continues on. this year was especially intense though. we have had more snow and cold, than any other year in our recorded history. and we still have more of winter to go through)
