what makes a man?

Standard

it took a small village of kinders to make a man.

Image

they hiked through the deep snow.

Image

they went in the playhouse to eat some snow and get pumped up about it.

Image

they worked hard to push heavy loads almost a big as they were.

Image

they built. and they built.

Image

and they moved mountains.

Image

and they crowned him with a prized possession.

Image

and we celebrated with a song and a dance around the man they created.

and in the seventh hour, they rested.

 Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world;

indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.

  1. Perfect title, Beth. Your kinders are shining lights in your posts, every time. And on on the seventh hour they shall sleep. Great writing there. Happy Sunday. It’s snowing here. Again. Ann Arbor?

    • thanks mark, and 4 more inches of snow here last night. now, 4 seems like nothing, only counts if we get double digits ) hey, there’s a sliver of me actually showing on the left in our singing shot, just a hint of my massive polar vortex coat helping me keep up with the kinders out there.

      • We had about that much here, too. I am about to go out and clear the cars and driveway for the umpteenth time this winter. Thank you for pointing out that sliver-of-Beth. I am slightly annoyed that I missed it on my own. Then again, the vortex attire kept your telltale hair out of the shot. I love the fact that you are in the kinders circle, participating in the joy of life moment.

    • wow, well this is really a huge breakthrough tomnardone. but it did notice the ‘almost’ in your sentence which brings it all back down to earth ) i was proud too, they had a job to do and did it, polar vortex be damned! i was not the camerawoman, that was my generous teaching partner, and a tiny sliver of me, a giant among the circle, is seen in our ringing the snowman singing pic, just a shadow of how huge my winter wonder coat actually is.

  2. This was a remarkable day with such lovely colors in the children’s coats, such happy expressions and ‘serious work’ being done, too. Yes, the naps are necessary, too bad we adults can’t pull up a cot, or is it just me, at my age, feeling this? I love my Sat. and Sun. naps! Smiles, Robin

    • there is always so much color in life of a kinder, it seems . ) just so you know, i do take a nap now and then with a co-teacher watching over all of us )

  3. I love the way the words and pictures fit together like a poem. You take two very different things and weave them together in a way that makes the whole greater than the parts. I am astonished. I call these sorts of things Paffoonies, a made-up word that pulls all my pictures together if you image-Google “Paffooney”. It is a form of surrealism that connects you and I and Salvador Dali… making meaning out of the odd bits thrown together. (Does this sound like I know what I’m talking about? Because I surely don’t.)
