to be interested in the changing seasons is a happier state of mind than to be hopelessly in love with spring. ~george santayana

once in a while

there are those perfect days

when holidays collide

today is one such day

groundhog’s day

an official snow day from school

a surprise gift from the universe

and i will celebrate both

“today is Β “ground-hog’s day” in many parts of the united states,

and candlemas day in many other parts of the world.

from time immemorial,

it has been a critical day in the affairs of the weather.

the character of the second of february is

really of much more importance

than whether the first of march comes in like a lion or a lamb.”

the simplest form of the adage is:β€”

if candlemas day be bright and clear,
there’ll be two winters in that year.

  1. I am so glad you got everything you wished for, Beth! My good friend, retired teacher of reading and special needs, still shakes a snow globe, wishing for her working teaching friends to have a snow day! She also has “snow” as her password on a lot of things. Good thing I don’t let anyone know her last name or they could break into her password garage and house! ha ha! You remind me of Jenny, which is a big compliment, Beth!
I love it when you have a cute picture or two to go with such a fun post, too! xo

  2. We had about a milimetre of snow here which lasted almost an hour! A beautiful if cold day since. Our winters can’t really compare I’m afraid. Mind you we will probably talk about ‘all’ the snow for at least another week. πŸ™‚

  3. Our older daughter called last night to assure us that she and her wife were well despite all the snow in Boston. She was not happy about trying to get about in it yesterday, and not happy that more snow is on the way. Hope you enjoyed yours though! πŸ™‚
