saw the listing below
in our city’s
rec and ed catalog
and
thought about
dogs
and how
they don’t really need
a class in this
it seems to come
quite naturally
to most of them
but
how great
it would be
for some
of the humans
to take this class.

the great pleasure of a dog
is that you may make a fool of yourself with him
and not only will he not scold you,
but he will make a fool of himself too.

Well the one in the photo either took the class or doesn’t need to – sooo cute! Thanks for the smile this morning :)

Excellent post and good idea of using the dog clown class as a jump off point to get your creative juices going, Beth. I love it when a little article helps spark my ideas for a post!
I enjoy that Samuel Butler quote, used it once after I found it on another blog, way back about a year ago! I think we could substitute any animal or a kid in it, don’t you, Beth? In fact, “the great pleasure of a child. . .” would be exactly perfect, too.

I surely hope they don’t make the dogs wear clown clothes and wigs and oversized paws and makeup, Beth. Dogs have far too much dignity for that. Ellie B aka Dogamous Pyle wouldn’t sit still for it, anyway!

i think they have their own way of clowning, no costumes needed. )

The problem with ME taking this class is that I’d have a problem being “handled by a friendly stranger”…..I could be wrong – but I could see me BITING the poor, unsuspecting “friendly stranger”….But, hey, what can I say?! That’s just ME!!! :)

Excellent. Funny (you have brought this out) that we connect with dogs; dogs teach us; we can be foolish with dogs; and dogs can be foolish with us. Wonderful image of a dog in flight and in joy.

I think this class is going to be more fun for the two-legged participants then the four-legged ones. Dogs don’t need to be taught to clown around–you’re absolutely right!

Samuel Butler’s quote, that ‘not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too’ puts it well and in a nut shell. But my problem with Dogs is that even when they are praising You, they make a Racket! :)
