No groundhogs in Australia. I love the idea of a day to start thinking about warm weather on its way. February here in Victoria can often be the hottest month – and bush fires can be a threat.
Old Groundhog stretched in his leafy bed.
He turned over slowly and then he said,
“I wonder if spring is on the way,
I’ll go and check the weather today…”

The groundhogs have such good press agents. The rats could learn from them. Love the proverb. I’ll turn my face to the sun in winter any day. In summer, I’ll have to use sunscreen first. 😉
Happy, happy. And may the groundhog of shadows, skip through the rest of winter, singing a spring-like tune, calling all the flowers to the surface, to dance in the sun.
It’s late to be celebrating groundhog day, but I’m so glad I’m finally able to take the time to catch up on blogs I haven’t been able to read for the past few days.
The Maori proverb you shared is a PERFECT reminder today. Thanks so much!

The Ground Hog will not see his shadow in South Florida today so I guess that means more winter weather for us. Probably nothing above 74o. ☺
