The opposite sounds so boring too: ‘new and usual’. Though it also doesn’t make sense in my head. How could something truly new also be ‘usual’?

Thinking about it ‘usual’ is probably harder to manage than the alternative. It must take a special kind of effort to become predictable. Imagine choosing that… :P
