not a peep!

Zombie Peeps on the loose.

And now, from CNN – More pandemic fallout: No Peeps for Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine’s Day!

This year has given us yet another trick and one less treat. Just Born Confections, the company that produces Peeps, says its holiday-themed marshmallow treats will not be in Halloween candy bags this year — and they won’t be in stores for Christmas or Valentine’s Day, either. None of these Peeps will return to stores until Easter of 2021.

The company temporarily suspended the production of its candy brands in April to protect the health and safety of their employees during the coronavirus pandemic. They resumed limited production in May after making changes in their plant.

“This situation resulted in us having to make the difficult decision to forego production of our seasonal candies for Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day in order to focus on meeting the expected overwhelming demand for Peeps for next Easter season, as well as our everyday candies,” according to the company’s statement. Before the pandemic, about 5.5 million Peeps were produced every day, roughly 2 billion a year.

“New Rule: Someone must x-ray my stomach to see if the Peeps I ate on Easter are still in there, intact and completely undigested. And I’m not talking about this past Easter. I’m talking about the last time I celebrated Easter, in 1962.”

  1. Don’t know anything about that brand. But honest to God, is this REALLY a problem for anybody? I rather applaud the mgt of that candy plant for – first of all – looking out for their employees….. Or am I a spoilsport now?

  2. Just Born Confections is headquartered in Bethlehem, PA, just a stone’s throw away from Philadelphia and NYC, which were initially devastated by the numbers of Covid cases. The owners decided to forego profits and protect its workers. They resumed production once changes had been made for social distancing and worker health. Now the best they can do production wise is to focus on the demand they know will come with the Easter Season. I am sure a few less peeps is nothing compared to the lives saved.

  3. NO Peeps? Well, they are NOT a favorite of mine, but they really aren’t to eat, are they? They just sit on the counter and make you smile! I am adding the link to this story on my “Halloween treats” post going up right now!

  5. Zombie Peeps! What a GREAT idea!! Oh this picture is so good, so good. I thought they just made them for Easter. I hadn’t seen these zombie ones. As you know chocolate usually rules Halloween but man! Those Zombie peeps. I’ll be looking out for them in 2021. Feel bad about production going down. Man if more people would just listen this thing wouldn’t last this long. Sending you good vibes 🙂
