ran into this guy
when out walking
frozen in place
i tried to remember
what to do
if i ever was
to meet a bear in the woods
run, play dead, make myself large, make noise
or
take a picture
leave it in the trees
for the child who left it behind
now, missing it.
—
“he looked all alone
and so sad and so blue,
so I said, “oh, dear bear;
there’s a home here for you.”
-ingrod sawubona, A Big-Bear Birthday, Please (English version)
As per latest videos on medias, you film it, take selfies and brag about it …. 😉

I want to pick Mr. Bear up and give him a hug, but that should not be your go to advice when meeting a bear in the woods. Great post and a happy Friday to you, Beth!

not for bear encounters of most kinds, but when finding blue ones, I think it is the right response

It is so cute. Hope it’s owner finds him soon.

I believe the rule is: Brown bears – don’t run. Black bears – make a commotion. Blue bears: Leave them where you found them but hugs are encouraged.

One person somewhere is surely missing their bear, you are so right, Beth.

That’s what I would do and have done except in my case it was a small woolen frog on some railings 🙂

Sometimes it’s okay to have a night out alone. Maybe the bear will make new friends. But I’m sure it’s human is forlorn.

You did the right thing. When you go next time, bring food, just in case.

Not the bear I would expect to find there, but definitely a better sort to run into. Hope he finds his family again soon!

I believe the usual advice is for you not to run away (Their instinct is to chase) or get between them and their cubs. You could have given us a shot of you freezing in one place or calmly walking away from that vicious predator.

it would have been very dramatic

That’s the kind of bear I don’t mind meeting in the woods.

A gentle bear to run into while hiking in the woods, but hope he finds his owner soon. I have a feeling his owner is just as blue…
