love the gummi bear model – some people are so creative! I wonder if somebody could do the same thing to explain the difference between a second cousin and a cousin once removed…
Darn ! I was about to compliment you on your gummy bear surgery and the use of them for the genetics explanation. And then I see NASA gets the credit. Still a very neat use.
I have some normally recessive genes that in me are NOT recessive, notably, I can roll my tongue UNDER. When challenged by our 9th grade biology teacher to try that, I was the only one. Well, 9th grade, the last thing anyone wants to be is different. Still, I wonder what OTHER traits came along with it.
This is very educational and simple to explain genes, a clever way for others to understand and visual to support visual learners. Absolutely fantastic and yummy. Thank you
Oh this is so good!

to think I spent a year doing Zoology 1 at Uni studying genetics [among other things] when I could have done a crash course in gummy bears instead 🙂

yep, all you needed were some gummy bears, a piece of paper towel, and a black marker. time and money saved!

I might have made A+ in every science class if only the gummies had been used to explain it all.
Barely made a C- 😦

I wish my teacher had gummy worms. I could have learned more … or perhaps I’d have eaten the lesson. Yes, that’s more likely.

For greater accuracy, should use four different colors for the nucleic acids, and a couple million gummi bears.
