even though
it’s mid-april
and the skies
delivered snow today
i thought back to a few days ago
when just like today
i had my sandals on
and came upon
a mother and child
in the sun
taking time
to create art
with simple and happy words
‘have a nice day’
for anyone in the neighborhood
who may come by
needing this message.

Offering an unexpected kindness to strangers. That may be one of the greatest things any person can do. Loved the quote! I am a big fan of Emerson.

A piece of chalk, a rock and a sidewalk was all we needed to play hopscotch on a spring day. Everyone invited, sharing and taking turns.
And if we were lucky someone brought a box of colored chalk to make the squares ….. with new challenges for hop, skipping and jumping.

The once empty canvas of a sidewalk may help inspire the future great artist. Wonderful vision and thoughtful idea!

Great perspective, Beth. Careful with those sandals in the snow, my friend.

I love chalk art. When my three were growing up, they created art on the driveway and the sidewalk often. And once I wrote a poem on the sidewalk. I appreciate your appreciation of this art form.

Wish that big fat sidewalk chalk had been around when I was a kid. Our skinny little sticks were just barely enough to draw hopscotch grids.

My favorite part of this post is watching a mother and child working on art together. All kids want is for their parents to spend time with them.
