Hmm it might be time to work out an apple bounce recipe. A quart of fruit, a fifth of your favorite three finger sauce, and a pound of sweetener aka sugar. Mix and let it age in a cool dark spot with the lid just loose enough to let it breath. No explosive decompression as it ferments please.
For some reason, we have tasted a lot of bad apples this summer season where I live, Beth. And still I hope each lunch time when I pull the supermarket-bought apple from my lunch bag. I hope the local crop is tasty this fall!
I’m ready for apple cider and apple butter! I’d be making apple sauce if I had room to store it! And I think it’s so cool that you are informed of the harvest days for each kind of apple so that you can make certain to get the exact type you want. By the way, great quote!
Braeburn apples were a big favourite of mine at one time. But then apples (and pineapples) started to give me indigestion in my late 40s, so I stopped eating them.
Best wishes, Pete.
I love apple season here in Minnesota. Orchards make a visit an experience now rather than simply a place to purchase a bag of apples. I love that, especially for families.
I didn’t realize there were so many different kinds. I’ve never heard of some of these. I grew up thinking Red Delicious was the only kind, but I’ve learned a lot since then.
I’ll have to take a look at the local trees and see how they’re doing! I would eat a honeys crisp apple any day of the week — wait, I do. Some really good apples seems to have vanished — Johnathon and Winesap? I don’t see them anywhere. BUT there was a guy selling apples in my town the first year I lived here from his grandma’s tree in New Mexico. They were old fashioned Johnathon apples, so tart and so good.
not a big apple fan, Beth, or even a small apple fan:) do you know I’ve lost more teeth eating apples than any other food: an apple a day may keep the doctor away but it doesn’t keep the dentist away 😦
I hope it’s good here, too! Other fruits have been a bit of a bust, this year.
Last year it was hard to find MacIntosh, and those are the apples for me. Best pie apples, ever!
I’m not ready for apples and apple season yet. 🙂
