Always wanted to be a host on public radio but don’t have a name with the international punch of Doualy Xaykaothao, an Ofeibea Quist-Arcton, or even a Daniel Zwerdling? Not to Worry! Enter your name below, and we will suggest a new public radio-friendly version. The rest is up to you..
when i entered my name, here is what was created for me:
Your Public Radio Name is:
Cantara del Barco-Wright
it has a nice ring to it, and i’m kind of liking it.

“i only got interested in radio once,
i talked my way into an internship at npr’s headquarters in washington, d.c. in 1978,
having never heard the network on the air.”

*American public radio personality. He is the host and producer of the radio and television series This American Life and has participated in other NPR programs, including: Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and Talk of the Nation. His work in radio and television has won him awards, such as the Edward R. Murrow Award for Outstanding Contributions to Public Radio and the George Polk Award in Radio Reporting.
Great radio name! Almost lyrical. I think you can pull it off. I, however, will not be able to pull off my suggested name of “Najee King-Liu”.

How it came up with this from Pete Johnson, I will never know!
‘Bishop Zhang-Rovner’. I don’t think I will be using that one.
I always thought Italian names sounded cool. When I was on holiday in France in my teens, I told a girl I was interested in that my name was ‘Salvatore Maranello’. She believed me, and called me ‘Sal’ for the rest of the week. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

ha, that’s a great transformation. I love that you adopted another name for a girl you were interested in and pulled it off.

I enjoyed my time in the ’60s, while in college, working at a radio station, announcing the news, which included the Vietnam war, etc. Also got to play music and other scheduled programs. I like the Ba-da-bing comment!

This is fun! Hello, Cantara. My name is Arabella Cotur-Brooks. I am not a big fan of hyphenated names, but if I drop that, I actually think my name is pretty. I’ll try to remember that in case I’m ever in a dangerous situation and need to give somebody a fake name.

Call me Delilah Ma-Toure. That generator seems stuck on hyphenated names and I don’t think they work well. I think mine sounds more like a stripper!

So having a name you cannot pronounce or remember it’s good for radio? That’s like saying you have a great face for radio. Or maybe I’m missing something. Wouldn’t be the first time.

I couldn’t help it; I hit the link. When not on air – I’m Pamela Wight. On air I’m Mahalia Pierce-Adbelkader. Of course I am. As Mahalia, I’m not an introvert and I love to talk to strangers, espousing the meaning of life. As Pamela, I sneak out of corners during social events to say hi to the host, then sneak outside to talk to the moon. A double personality! 🙂

Now there’s a twist in a story! Giving my public name Kiki Vol-au-Vent I got the unpronouncable
Ying Gonyea-Dominguez
But giving my real name, they came up with the even worse
Fenfang Feldman-Hernandez….
I love npr and I am grateful to have learned about the great things Ira Glass did for America and Radio. Also I would have thought that name was a female one….
Always loved and still love radio. Wanted to crawl into the huge ‘box’ we had to broadcast as a child. Always felt I cd tell stories just as well as the actual radio person…. still do sometimes! Or correcting their ‘high german’.
