It is OK if some sing bass. And others alto or soprano. The lyrics must be hopeful, helpful and polite. Solos are of course OK! But it is the happy harmony of humming that everyone does in the background that makes the tune #1.
Amen. Makes me think of the instructions in the Methodist Hymnal about singing…..”part IV – Sing lustily and with good courage. Beware of singing as if you were half dead, or half asleep; but lift up your voice with strength. Be no more afraid of your voice now, nor more ashamed of its being heard, than when you sung the songs of Satan.” Yeah, that’s how we should sing America.
It’s sad that some try to turn us against each other when we should be celebrating our differences…I mean, Maine Lobster Rolls and Texas BBQ couldn’t be more different but they are both ours to enjoy!
We need more of this singing together. Forget the boisterous solos of self-importance. But rather focus on the harmony we can make together. I can’t carry a tune and can’t read music, but when everyone joins in singing a beautiful song, I celebrate.
Here, here!

Despite all the off-key singers, we need to make the best of it.
