for the second time
we tried to surprise
a dear friend
to celebrate her milestone birthday
and round two came very close to not happening
when life circumstances intervened
just a few hours before.
we quickly began planning
what our third attempt would look like
when she turned the tables
and surprised all of us
by showing up
at the appointed hour.

“new friends may be poems but old friends are alphabets.
do not forget alphabets, because you will need them to read the poems.”
*author: not shakespeare
*this is another one of those quotes that seems to have come up someplace and wandered around a bit until someone put “shakespeare once said…” in front of it and it stuck.
Amazing words…I liked it👍🏻

I like the fact that Plan C was well under development when fate delivered on Plan B. Enjoy your celebrations, my friend!

How wonderful to surprise friends (no matter who does the surprising!) Love that quote (and love how so many are assigned to famous people with zero shred of evidence!)

I don’t know if you’ve seen “Upstart Crow” but the Shakespeare in the program is always claiming to have come up with a saying and someone is always saying, “No, I think it was…” and then proves it. It’s a really funny program. Only 3 seasons, sadly…

I think Shakespeare actually said, “New friends can join the alphabet but old friends are the vowels that make the words and the poetry possible.”

or perhaps his cousin said it?

Just quote Shakespeare and it’s instantly a classic. But whoever coined that one; its a really good one 👍🏻
