since i was an itty bitty girl
my very favorite desserts in the whole wide world
always included
my hometown bakery’s (sanders) milk chocolate hot fudge topping
(on anything, or sometimes just a spoonful or bowl (small) of it, yes)
in my later years
i have it on special occasions
or on a random tuesday
imagine my reaction
when i read a local article
how it was now very hard to get
so of course
i then decided i had to have it
checked the usual places
without any luck
went to amazon
found an offer
for $288
for 6 jars
of what is normally under $10
now i want it more
haven’t yet found a way to rationalize the cost
even though it may very well be worth it
perhaps an emergency go fund me is on the horizon.

There is a huge demand , so I’m hoping they will. They’ve been a much-loved confectionery here for generations so it seems like they’ll make it happen

Ask yourself this question: Which would upset you more – if you paid that exorbitant price and the product eventually came back into circulation at a ‘normal’ price, or if you chose to hold out for a more ‘normal’ price and something happened so that the product never appeared again for resale?
Ask yourself this question: Would you rather spend $300 on a quick weekend vacation during the school year or spend $300 purchasing 6 jars of your absolute favorite hot fudge topping that you can dole out in small portions to last you for a couple of years?
I agree that the price for this topping is way over the top (of the ice cream), but sometimes, we have to weigh our priorities to find out how much we want it!

nope, not worth it, just found it funny how much I wanted it when I knew I couldn’t just grab it anywhere for an easy price

That is ridiculous….. Obviously people buy it for that price…. I would rather go without and use the money more wisely. … like on a day out or something!

I have a confession to make. I have never had fudge sauce on anything, though I am sure I would like it. I am not paying $48 a jar for it though. :)

It is selling for £2 a bottle here, but I am not sure it is the same. This is from a ‘quality’ supermarket.

You know…this supply chain thing is starting to piss me off. We’re seeing it everywhere now and of course the price of almost everything is sky rocketing to the point of rip offed ness. It’s price gouging at it’s finest. It’s Covid’s fault, it’s Obama’s fault (thanks for that trump), it’s this fault’s, it’s thats fault.
$288.00 for 6 jars of fudge sauce?? WTF is right! I’ll tell ya, I wouldn’t buy it even when the price comes back down..which it will..because whoever is selling it at that price should be ashamed of themselves for being that kind of business/person.
Ok, I’m done now! (Smiley Face). :)

Thanks for this, but I don’t blame them, they’re not the ones selling it, someone must have had it and jacked up the price because it’s in hot demand
LikeLike
Oh ok, wow someone must have bought up tons of it anticipating the company’s plans to look for another manufacturer. So in the meantime they can cash in on the company and their customer’s loss of this fudge sauce. Let’s hope they don’t get ahold of the recipe. Grrr!

Does this stuff have expiration dates? Even if you paid that much, would it still be edible? I don’t trust price gougers.

1 cup sugar. 3 tbs cornstarch.
3 – 6 tbs cocoa (depending on you) or equivalent in baking chocolate (if you have any)
2/3 cup evaporated milk tbs butter
Melt butter and baking chocolate in a double boiler (not necessary but that’s the rule — I just use a small sauce pan)
Mix dry ingredients (not cocoa — add that to melted butter)
Add milk to melted stuff
Slowing add dry ingredients, stir.
Let this mixture cook, stirring frequently to prevent lumps (if using cocoa) until it thickens.
Pour over ice cream. In real life, it’s like making chocolate gravy. I like this a lot and it’s less than $288. Maybe it would tie you over. Please don’t tell anyone I know any recipes.
