it’s that time of year again
move-in week
the uni students have newly arrived or returned
for a year of who knows what lies ahead
the stores, the streets, the students
are full of excitement, fear, questions, hopes
and a broom, a big mirror, and a case of ramen noodles or two.

When I went to ‘Uni’ (a long time ago), fortunately, a new University had just been established on the other side of town, only 12 km away …

It reminds me of my moving in, in 1966! Life-changing, especially because within a week, I met my wife-to-be! The rest is history!

Our daughter moved in to her apartment at MSU a couple of weeks ago, she’s still settling in… and we are still missing her. For me it’s teacher workday and tomorrow year 25 with kiddos in 6th grade science. It’s gonna be a great day.

I went to summer school for 3 summers to graduate early. So I never had to move in and out until graduation day. Summers were a bummer. :(

I love how there is more of a tendency to go away to uni in the States than we do here. Most of us just go to the one in our city (or nearest to).

It’s becoming more of a mix here. But still seems the majority go away

I wondered. I figured not everyone goes across the country! Surely some stick close to home :)

An odd combination: anticipation with a twinge of uncertainty. It keeps your wits sharp.

Sure takes me back to my move-in in Boulder. So much excitement, so much apprehension. All I recall for sure that I had was my record player and a pile of LPs.

I remember sitting outside the bookstore and watching the new freshmen — over a 30 year period — come out with Bob Marley posters. I wonder if they still do and it wouldn’t surprise me if they did.
