another try at hiking on the sleeping bear dunes point trail
this time not the long forced dune march like in the spring
instead
some dune, beautiful views, waving grass, soft forest paths
and a real trail.
and then
the ghost forest.

a “Ghost Forest” in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
These forests were covered and uncovered by the shifting sands of Lake Michigan’s dunes,
leaving behind these ghostly trees.

I never knew there was such a thing as a National Lakeshore.
When I was growning up, we used to go camping at Waukegan Dunes, now called Illinois Beach State Park. But I also spent several summers on the Michigan side, at what is now Duck Lake State Park.

Once again, I hit the “Post Comment” button too fast. Instead of growning (or groaning) I meant to write growing.

Tough place to be a forest. Glad it’s being protected.

It does look ghostly. Yes, Robert was right with his quote. Speaking of nature, I found a wonderful new book, The Twelve Days of Winter, a Wildlife Celebration by Sherri Maret. It’s a must have, and I plan to sing it to the children when winter arrives. Yes, it’s “On the First Day of Christmas” tune. Moose, cardinals, foxes, etc.

Sandy dunes make me think of strolling with the ocean breeze in my face and the tangy salt of the spray in my nostrils. Quite relaxing.

You were up in our neck of the woods. We go up to Torch lake all the time during the summer. I love Sleeping Bear Dunes, but we didn’t make it there this summer. It’s on my list for next summer.
