Is you city still small enough to hold an all city Halloween party?

not anymore, this was from 1941 and it has boomed since then

I knew the picture was taken in the 1940’s. The thought of a city still being so small, to do something to bring the community together is wishful thinking.

I think those 1941 kids look much scarier than they do today. :)
Best wishes, Pete.

I so agree, Pete. the old costumes were so often terrifying

Little did they know these costumes would still be popular in the time of their great grandkids, Beth. Happy Halloween!

so true, and they somehow seemed so much creepier then when looking back.

A most enchanting opportunity to tell a story through your choice of costume, for sure!

Many things change after years. But you could have told us this picture was taken last year and we would believe you! Kids love dressing up for Halloween in the same tried and true costumes.

Yes!!! Oh my! And the chalky texture of the masks…kinda gritty? Thanks for the giggles, Beth! 🥰

500 to 1,000 kids, probably all in costume. What a gathering that must have been!

Oh, those hard plastic Halloween masks with the rubber band/elastic grasping our heads. Pure misery. But I would love to have several now to display as art, especially the gypsy one I wore in the 1960s.

The Ann Arbor News must have a good archive. Every time I try my hometown paper, The Detroit News they never have what I’m looking for. Fun post Beth. Like the quote too.
