from the garden to the heart.

Standard
using locally foraged plants, artist kayla powers
taught us to make our own botanical watercolor paints
not a quick process
with many steps along the way
what an incredible experience
from the garden and the forest, to the art, to the heart.

the dentist gave me this bag

when i left her office today

i think she was really happy

that i didn’t cry.

i displayed it proudly.

the holdovers.

Standard

after seeing the trailer for this film

i really thought it was going to be a comedy

it did have its funny moments and lines

as the movie played out

 it was so much more

the trio of lead actors were brilliant

the characters

interacted

 revealed themselves

learned about each other

   personal stories emerged

in ways unexpected, tragic, and beautiful

 finding something in each other

perhaps they didn’t even know they needed

but oh, did they ever

because as their understanding

of their humanity

with all of its flaws and challenges

came to the forefront

they chose grace

each was made the better for it

and forever changed.

“the moment we cry in a film is not when things are sad

but when they turn out to be more beautiful than we expected them to be.”

jfk and family – the ones who i thought were my cousins

(a reblog from 10 years ago)

being born a kennedy, for as long as i can remember, i assumed that the other kennedys were just cousins who lived out east. when the killing of jfk happened, 50 years ago, (now 60 years), i had just turned 6, only 4 days before. i was in first grade and i remember being called in from recess and all of the adults were crying. that was the day i found out that i was not actually a cousin, and that people could die from things other than being very, very old.  it was one of those days when my world changed forever.
