beginning our parent teacher conferences
ready to share stories, laugh, chat with families,
at some point
voices grew crackly,
coffee and lots of water became important
leaving at the end, very quietly walking to our cars.
happy families and most of our voices left behind.

I always felt sorry for the teachers on parent-teacher night and tried to make it easy on them. Bravo to you and all the teachers out there.

we had them for a couple of days and my voice just wasn’t having it

we love what we do, so all worth it. I much prefer in person conversations over report cards

When I was at school in London, Parent-Teacher evenings were on a held one-to-one basis. Usually only my mother would come with me, and it was normally over fairly quickly. :)
Best wishes, Pete.

No matter how well you think you’ve planned for the conferences, it never turns out like you planned.

On the other hand, some of those parent-teacher conferences I attended with my own parents remain remarkably fresh in my mind, as do memories of those teachers. The importance of those hours lingers, even though I can’t recall the sound of the voices.

Yes, and I love those conversations

It is such an important part of being a teacher. I feel for you (and my brother-in-law, nephew, and a few other teachers I know). That makes for a LOT of talking in a short period. No wonder, when the end comes, I bet all you seek is silence… and something soothing for your throat!

all worth it to have those conversations, but sometimes my voice doesn’t agree

The voice box does need rest when it’s overused.

Haha! I always enjoyed parent/teacher conferences, but it’s quite a relief not to use our husky voices so much once retired. The first day back following summer was also a strain of the voice box.

I like them too. I so prefer the conversation over a report card

I love everything about this but particularly the bad joke and beautiful dogs at the end. I’m superficial that way…

all worth it, voices just wear out. we have 2 classes, so 32 families, and we want to share the stories of everyone.
