on the lunar new year, 2024 – the year of the dragon
—
may the new year shower you with luck and love
and
may it be as bright as all the lanterns that light up the sky.

Apparently Dragon years are special, because it is the only lunar calendar animal that is mythical. :)
Best wishes, Pete.

Dragons and Dreams
My dragon flew me to New York
His scaly tail was singed
By the stoic statue’s torch
As we were landing upon Central Park
And in the city’s mystical forest I stood
Among strawberry fields and woods
Atop the plaque of my dreams
I imagined, how life should’ve been

My waitress from Taiwan, here in Savannah’s Omelette House says the Chinese New Year starts tomorrow, Saturday in the US. Today, Friday, February 9, 2024, on the east coast of the US, we have a similar climate to that of the sub-equatorial region of China’s eastern coast, but China is already a day ahead of us, since the international date line runs in a zigzag line down the Pacific Ocean. Lulu says the year of the dragon is supposed to be lucky.

We went to our local branch of the Austin Public Library the other day and were surprised that we couldn’t find a single parking space. Turns out a lot of Chinese people had gathered there to celebrate their new year.
