Mardis Gras is one international celebration that seems to have avoided England. :)
Best wishes, Pete.

I think it’s big in countries with a catholic population, as it marks the last hurrah, before beginning lent, leading up to easter.

Very likely, as it means Fat Tuesday….

We call it Shrove Tuesday, and it is also known as Pancake Day. It is traditional to eat pancakes on this day, but there are no parades. :)

Well I so have known that. Because in the UK this day WAS known and celebrated . And I love pancakes. But I never knew the real reason, and the same with Mardi Gras. We (HH is French spoken) speak of ‚faire la grosse mattinée‘ – typically not getting up on Saturday early and put on a brunch …. Isn’t it interesting to learn about all those very different customs?!

If only we would use our energy and creative talents to produce beautiful things instead of the other wasteful things ….. what a wonderful world this would be.
I remember stuffing colorful paper into chicken wire (or something) to create a float for a Home Coming Parade in a little town high school parade. Happy teens working together.

What a beautiful illustration. I love the fairy people and that they have decorated their float with flowers..kind of like a rose parade float. :)

Hi Beth,
Have you changed something on your setup? For the last few days, when I try to “like” your post from my tablet (which I’ve been using for years), it’s coming back as unsecure and refusing to show your site / post. Everything seems ok from my PC. My tablet is android based – not Apple or Windows. So, you may have missed a few “likes” from others, too. I just thought I’d pass that along…
:)

thanks, Kevin, nothing on my end has changed but it could be a wp issue that I’m not aware of. I did notice that it has been hard for me to share my posts on Facebook recently and no idea why

Beautiful float. It would be fun to visit New Orleans for Mardi Gras, although it might feel visually and otherwise overwhelming.

Just mention Mardi Gras and it seems to make people smile. We went to the float storage building where they made and repaired the floats when we vacationed there and it was very fascinating. The float in the picture is very beautiful.
