when a baby goes rogue looking for cracker crumbs in our classroom
at a class shower for my teaching partner’s soon to arrive first baby
roaming baby’s mom said not to worry,
she is just building up her immunity.
clearly not her first child.

We all ate crumbs off the floor as babes. In fact I’m not above brushing off a little piece of something that fell on the floor today. ;)

I guess no baby ever got sick from cookie or cake crumbs on the floor. Love the quote!

Yeah for that mom. Love her attitude. And, yes, clearly not her first baby. How nice of you all to host a class shower for your teaching partner’s first baby. Hopefully she was taking notes.

it was so fun for everyone to celebrate and brought parents, children and teachers together in celebration

Yes, eating dirt is supposed to be natural, and supposedly healthy. Some modern mums are too fastidious, in my opinion.
Best wishes, Pete.

it has been a problem for the ‘covid chidren’ who I’ve been teaching for three last couple of years, they were barely exposed to any other people or places where they would normally pick up germs and build immunity. they are starting from scratch

That happened with our grand-daughter who was born in 2020. Once she started nursery she caught everything, and had a constant runny nose.

Ha, I said the same thing when other mums told me that my son was eating the sand in the kids‘ sand pit (including cats‘ left-behinds, and much other dirt). He got strong and became a landscape gardener…. Obviously a wise decision then!

There you go! Kids play less I. The diet than they used to and it’s filled with microbes that help with immunity

That’s so cute! Were they chocolate chip cookie crumbs? :) Will be interesting to see if mom to be lets her baby be a crumb eater. :)) Chris

I believe I did build up immunities drinking from the hose and all those other less than perfect sanitary practices. Of course, if I die from one of my bad habits, I may change my mind.

Sorry, I was the one who fund on that odd cuisine as a child, not u.) was I lacking some important mineral in my American processed diet? Was I training to be a survivalist or live off the grid when I grew up? No one really knows, myself included

LOL Yes my wife was a neurotic about our first child. She got mad at her mom for touching the bedding in his crib and then she washed the bedding all over again. With our second and third child, that did not happen.

Somehow we managed when our parents turned us loose outside for hours at a time.

that we did. it’s so hard for the kinder that I’ve taught in the last couple of years, because, due to covid, they’ve not had much expose to other kids, outside situations, or encounters where they’d come into contact with others. immune systems are starting from scratch
